Trysil is new to our programme for 2009/10. Trysil is the largest and most varied ski area in Norway situated 2 hours north of Oslo near the Swedish border. While nearly 80% of the accommodation is ski in ski out Trysil is a vibrant village – the year round population of 3000 rises to nearer 12000 during the winter season. There are a range of bars, restaurants, nightclubs, swimming pools, spas, cinemas, bowling, sledging as well as indoor surfing.
The Skiiing
The ski area is spread over Trysil mountain; 31 lifts rising to 1132m open up 65 marked slopes. Trysil has one of the longest ski seasons in Europe. The area opens in November and closes in May – this is guaranteed – (Check out www.skistar.com for the unique Trysil snow guarantee). Evening skiing is available on Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays while on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10 February onwards breakfast skiing for early risers is available.
Beginners
One of the advantages of skiing in Norway is that everyone speaks English. The nursery slopes are perhaps some of the best designed in Europe with a mix of moving walkways, drag twos and chairlifts serving wide gentle areas. From Trysil centre beginners have access to a labyrinth of wide open green runs – allowing access to all areas of the mountain with out the worry of coming across a harder run to get back to the base station.
Intermediate
ntermediates will enjoy cruising the blues and red runs that intersect the Trysil mountain – Fjellroa offers hours of carving enjoyment on groomed corduroy.
Advanced
Advanced skiers will be surprised how large and varied the Trysil ski area is. Enjoy powering down from the top of Fjellroa to Hegegga – or take slope 76 on a steep 45% piste.
Flood lit skiing is available throughout the week, while for those who rise early – get the benefit of the Breakfast Club from 10 February onwards. For a small fee the mountain is open to a limited number of skiers and borders for 2 hours before the area opens up to the public at 9am.
Family Skiing
Like Geilo, Trysil offers families a calm quiet approach to skiing – wide open slopes, friendly English speaking instructors and no lift queues.
