Morzine is situated just 40 miles east of Geneva in the heart of the Portes du Soleil, the world’s largest international ski area. Morzine is a traditional market of attractive chalets set against forested mountainsides and has that special atmosphere closely associated with a winter alpine holiday. Morzine has a wealth of facilities: skating rink, swimming pools, a huge range of shops, cinemas, cleared walking paths, horse drawn sleighs, tobogganing, the list goes on! The mood for apres ski is created by dozens of bars and restaurants: Le Dixie, Le Crep Schul, The Ridge and Café Chaud provide a great warm up to bopping the night away in either The Opera Rock or Wallington night clubs!

The Skiing
Your lift pass covers 13 resorts, 6 in Switzerland, the remaining 7 in France, all connected by 235 lifts and 650 kms of marked piste. Because our flights allow for seven days skiing we operate a pre paid lift pass service. Pay for your lift pass when you pay for your holiday. When you arrive in Morzine we will have your lift pass waiting for you.

Beginners
Both Morzine and Avoriaz have ideal gentle nursery slopes for beginners. With professional tuition from The British Alpine Ski School beginners will soon gain the skill and confidence to venture up the mountain to explore some of the gentle tree lined pistes on Le Pleney, Les Lindarets and Super Morzine.

Intermediates
For the more advanced skiers, the Portes du Soleil opens up a wealth of opportunities. There are long motorway runs like Cubore from Pointe de Mossiette right down to Ardent (over 10 miles long!), or Le Grand Paradis from Planachaux to Champery. Red and blue runs inter-link throughout the area.

Take a day to ski the fabulous Portes du Soleil circuit, a round in which you ski through eight resorts and cross the French Swiss border.

Advanced
The huge network of marked pistes and acres of off piste will satisfy even the most advanced skiers.

Above Morzine, Point de Nyon offers some steep fall line skiing, Chamossiere is famed for its powder (the little vin chaud hut at the bottom of Chamossiere is a welcome retreat after spending the morning in the powder!) The black runs off the back of Mont Chery are steep and surprisingly bumpy.

High above Avoriaz, Machon is a steep knee bashing bump run; further over Crozats offers some exhilarating off piste. The Wall is a fierce bump run, while further over the couloirs above Les Crosets are for extreme skiers.

Ski round the Portes du Soleil circuit - off piste; skiing some of our favourite runs, The Mossiette Couloir, The Morgins Off Piste, Happy Valley and Hidden Valley to name just a few.

To really experience the off piste potential of the area take a guide for a day - using our touring equipment we guarantee that you won’t be disappointed. We have a small information sheet detailing the off piste skiing available. Please contact our office for details.

Vallee Blanche
This fabulous off piste route, 22 kms from The Aiguille du Midi to Chamonix is an experience not to be missed. Once a week from February through to the end of April we will be offering The Vallee Blanche as an optional excursion.

Ski and Snowboard Guiding
Once again we will be offering our unique ski guiding service to help you make the most of the Portes du Soleil. We know the area well, the short cuts, the best and cosiest mountain restaurants, how to avoid any lift queues and where the best snow will be. We try and ski a different area each day. One day we’ll take you round the circuit so you needn’t worry about getting lost. We have up to 5 ski and snowboard guides working in Morzine. They are available all day each day except for Wednesdays and Saturdays. As a general rule guiding is only available to those guests of an intermediate standard and above. We also limit the number of guests to 10 per guide. To comply with French regulations, guiding does not form part of your holiday package, but is provided as a totally free service. We may withdraw this service at any time.

Ecole de Ski Morzine

The ESF in Morzine is a French ski school offering a high level of service from a small enthusiastic English speaking team. Children are very well catered for and benefit from having their own nursery area and lift.

The Avoriaz Alpine Ski School
The Avoriaz Alpine Ski School is highly recommended, we have had lots of positive feedback from our clients. Most of their instructors are British. They will coach you through a series of skills enabling you to ski and surf the whole mountain. All groups are limited to 8 even during peak season. You may pay more but we believe that smaller groups progress quickly. Their meeting point is easy to reach via the Prodain cable car.
Advanced skiers must try an All Terrain clinic. Expert snowboarders should try the Park and Pipe clinic. Backcountry clinics will take you safely off piste with the option of a helicopter out. Do not miss this one!

Beginner, improver and intermediate packages including hire and lift pass can be booked via Alpine Tracks. All other courses, private lessons and clinics should be booked direct with the school - www.avoriazalpineskischool.com or telephone 01237 451099.

E2SA - The International Ski School
E2SA, The International Ski School based in Le Pleney in Morzine, provides both group and private lessons, for children and adults, from beginners through to advanced in both skiing and snowboarding, including the BURTON learn to ride program.
